Exchange of UK driving licences in Spain

As of March 16, 2023, you can proceed to the exchange of driving licenses issued by the United Kingdom for a Spanish one.

UK citizens are allowed to drive in Spain for 6 months with their British driving licence.

Documentation:

  • Proof of identity and residence. DNI or Certificate of Residence/TIE and valid Passport.
  • Original valid driving license.
  • Padron Certificate. In case the address in the residence is not correct.
  • Updated photograph. Size 32 x 26 mm.
  • Psycho-technical certificate. Medical driving certificate.
  • Written declaration of not being deprived by judicial resolution of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds, nor subjected to intervention or suspension of the one possessed.
  • British National Insurance Number. This information is necessary to obtain the Check Code (British driving License) before requesting the exchange to the DGT we must obtain this code.
